SAMLEX AMER SEC-1215UL
I was looking for accuracy and I found it.Great build quality as usual from Samlex, and also very quiet in the HF radio bands, especially for a light switch-mode charger. I didn't need the 3 isolated ports, but it did a fine job with my Optima AGM's.You have to wire up your own charging leads, and fortunately they provide some nice quality crimp-pins for you. That helps. Do not skimp on the cabling from this charger. Speaker wire is OUT. Samlex provides plenty of assistance in the manual for this.I tracked the algorithms with my own Fluke voltmeters and ammeters, and was pleasantly surprised at how accurate it is. The analog meter is actually a plus, since it is so easy to read, and while not poinpoint accurate, it is good enough for a general indication to show what part of the charge cycle you are in.I also charge large prismatic LiFePo4 12v battery banks, in a 4S configuration of GBS, CALB, Winston, Sinopoly etc, and purposely use the toggle switches to set the charger for 14V maximum! This charger is NOT specifically designed for LiFePo4, but so far so good. Since I don't run any sort of bms balancing boards, I don't need the higher voltages, and the "GEL" setting of 14v is just fine. It passes my tests with Fluke multimeters, which I trust. Of course this may actually void the warantee, and LiFePo4 charging is well beyond the scope of this review. However I am delighted with it so far in this application. But again, it is not specifically designed for this type of battery. It also doesn't get very hot, and you can put your hand on the side heatsinks without yanking them away. I also appreciate the metallic box and good paint quality. It is built the way things used to be built and think it will be with me for a very long time.
